Exclusive Interview: Katrina Kaif

We got up  close and personal with Katrina Kaif! Read the interview below and find out about her new endorsement, films and more!

DH!: So in your new campaign for Nakshatra diamonds, you look ridiculously stunning! Can you tell us more about the shoot?

Katrina Kaif: Thank-you, it’s been a wonderful journey; we had an amazing time shooting the commercial. My dear friend Ahmed Khan was the choreographer, who was kind enough to help us out. We’ve tried our best. It’s an amazing concept, what we’re tried to do is to tie in the elements of astrology, seeing what diamonds and gems symbolize. We’ve gotten a wonderful response; hope the journey continues to be successful.

DH!: In the ad you play the goddess of luck. Are you really good luck?

Katrina Kaif: (Laughs) I am so glad you brought that up. We are in no way incorporating that I am the goddess of luck. The ad represents a goddess of luck with elements of Astrology and gem energies and I am simply playing the character.

DH!: Are you really into Astrology?

Katrina Kaif: I am not completely into it. However, it does excite me, when I meet someone who can read hands or who is into stars and numbers. It’s good to get a glimpse of what’s in store for you. I have met people who have sworn that certain gems have helped them a lot. I guess the energies that many of these gems contain when connected, they can change your life for the better.

DH!: So are diamonds really a girl’s best friend?

Katrina Kaif: Diamonds symbolize security. They are forever. You can pass them on to the next generation and I think that’s the reason why diamonds are so special for almost all women, including myself.

DH!: Was the reason you decided to work for Nakshatra luck or so you could get some luck?

Katrina Kaif: (Takes a long pause) I find Nakshatra has beautiful collection, I am not the one who is too fond of loud jewelry, and Nakshatra completely suits my personality. I can connect with the designs rather comfortably. Besides this is the company that has done the best in the business. So why not opt for it? I am the kind of person who chooses my brands only if I use them or believe in them. I love the designs that Nakshatra offers. They have something for every occasion. I’ve heard them being the ambassador of this trade mark, has helped me as well as the company. Together we can continue to have a great partnership (smiles).

DH!: Was it scary to have to replaceAishwarya Rai?

Katrina Kaif: Not really. It’s business and one needs to move on from time to time. I have no problems with Aishwarya, she did a great job being the brand ambassador to Nakshatra and now it’s my turn.

DH!: Did you consult anyone before taking up the Nakshatra offer?

Katrina Kaif: No, I make my own decisions. As I said earlier, if I believe in something I will endorse it.

DH!: So why didn’t you go to any New Year’s parties this past year?

Katrina Kaif: I did sign up for an event, but things in Mumbai got pretty out of control. Thus the event organizers and I decided to bail out on the event. Plus it doesn’t sound good to perform and party when the city is destructed to such an extent.

DH!: How do you feel about being voted the sexiest female in India this year?

Katrina Kaif: It’s a great honor that I am appreciated by so many people. But honestly, I don’t find myself sexy. I have to thank my fans for their constant love and support. I just don’t know what else to say. Frankly I was quite overwhelmed with the title.

DH!: What’s it like working with Ranbir Kapoor in “Ooty”?

Katrina Kaif: Ranbir is so fun to work with. We had a great time shooting for Rajkumar Santoshi’s “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani” for about two months. It was a real stress buster for me, from the city life.

DH!: So everyone is dying to know more about the “slapping” incident!

Katrina Kaif: (Laughs) I am going to get Ranbir for that. Actually I am quite accident prone. Ranbir poor thing missed his cue and slapped me really hard. My face was all puffed up and we had to cancel shooting for the day.

DH!: Was the film city accident next?

Katrina Kaif: Oh gosh yes! (Blushes) I was shooting for Priyadharshi’s “Dhan Dhana Dhan” at film city. I had to shoot underwater. My leg got tangled under the water. Akki (Akshay Kumar) came to my rescue. I am taking my time to recover from it.

DH!: Is it true that Deepika Padukone visited the set of “Ooty” to spy on Ranbir and you who are supposedly having an affair?

Katrina Kaif: An affair? Ha, that’s utter rubbish (sarcastically laughs it off). Deepika did visit us and we had some great times with her on set. This was the first time I got to spend so much time with her. I do not know of any problem that might have happened between the two, it’s their personal issue and I am no where a part of it.

DH!: Is is it true that things are so bad with you and Salman Khan right now, that you didn’t even go to his birthday party?

Katrina Kaif: It’s too personal to answer that. People know that I am not the kind of person to talk about my personal life. I just didn’t go to the birthday party because I had a leg injury a few weeks ago, and I kept myself isolated. My absence at his birthday was blown completely out of proportion. (Grins), if people want to believe rumors, well than I cannot do anything much about it, can I?

DH!: Is there any truth to the rumor that you and Zarine Khan supposedly went off on each other on the set of “Veer” when you were visiting?

Katrina Kaif: (Looks down) I really don’t understand why people spread rumors like this. I went once to the set of Veer to meet Salman. I had my day off, and decided to just go on the set and meet Vipul as well. There’s nothing more to it. I have nothing against Zarina, she was doing her job. I was minding my own business and she was minding hers. I didn’t meet Salman on his birthday either, so this was a good opportunity to catch up with him as well.

DH!: Which are you looking more forward to “Dhan Dhana Dhan” or “Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani”?

Katrina Kaif: “Dhan Dhana Dhan” has me and Akshay Kumar in it, which is something I look forward to, whereas me and Ranbir are together for the first in “Ajab Prem”, so I would love to know how that’s going to turn out to be. (Smiles)

So How Hot is Atif Aslam?

Pakistani pop singer, Atif Aslam is one of the biggest acts of the moment. You probably heard of him but if you haven’t or if you just can’t get enough of him, here is the scoop on the sensational star .Atif Aslam sang popular tracks like, ‘Doorie,’ ‘Pehli Nazar,’ ‘Tere Bin,’ and ‘Woh Lamhe.’  Now those tracks probably ring a bell!  So the question is how hot of a singer is he really?
Atif Aslam began his musical career with the Pakistani band ‘Jal’, after winning a competition to become the last member in 1998.  After a dispute over Atif’s brother becoming the manager of’ Jal’, he left the group to pursue a solo career, sparking a major controversy.  It seems his solo album was released just weeks before ‘Jal’s’ new album and he used many of the tracks that were to appear of ‘Jal’s’ album, starting a rights war between the group and Atif Aslam.  Since Pakistan’s copyrights laws aren’t very stringent, nothing was done about the war.  But like many celebs, the controversy only helped hypes up the release of both Atif Aslam and ‘Jal’s’ albums.
Atif Aslam’s solo debut, ‘Jal Pari’ was released in 2004 and within five months, it was declared the best selling album of the year!  He went on to release, ‘Doorie,’ and ‘Meri Kahani’ to similar reception.  Then of course who can forget the popular Bollywood tracks he’s done like, ‘Pehli Nazar,’ from ‘Race’ and ‘Bakhuda,’ from ‘Kismat Konnection.’  Atif Aslam even toured the world, including a successful run of the US and UK.

Akshay Kumar At Roxy Cinema Terrace For Makar Sankranti

There was a lot of celebration going on for Makar Sankranti, a few day ago. Makar Sankranti is a festival that celebrates the beginning of the harvest season. Indian’s all over the country fly kites, an activity that is appropriate for this time period. a few days ago. People were out with their family and friends spending the day together on the beautiful day.

Well, Bollywood celebrities were no exception, even they took the time to go out and have fun with their communities, friends and family, and their people. Stars like Madhuri Dixit and Pooja Bedi spent their Makar Sankranti at local parks with some kids, but some other Bollywood stars took the chance to be amongst so many people as an opportunity and used their precious time wisely. The star of the new thriller “Raaz: The Mystery Continues”, Emraan Hashmi was seen spending his day at a BIG 92.7 event, where we are certain there was a lot of promotion of the new film. “Raaz: The Mystery Continues” comes out in about two weeks so it there is no surprise that the film’s actor would support it every chance he gets.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar spent his at the Roxy Cinema Terrace, spreading the word about his own film in a different way. While the “Chandani Chowk to China” star was seen helping get the kites ready and later on flying one of his own, there were also some seemingly inconspicuous movie posters attached to the table where he was standing. There’s no doubt this was in an attempt at promoting the new film, “Chandani Chowk to China” which comes out this weekend! Talk about multi-tasking, Akshay Kumar was celebrating Makar Sankranti and also still at work. Check out the pictures we got of the star on his day off, flying some kites. So How Good Did Shahrukh And Gauri Khan Look On The Red Carpet?

By now everyone knows that the Baadshah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, was a presenter at the 66th Annual Golden Globes this past Sunday. And if you haven’t heard, have you been living under a rock?!  Well in case you haven’t, Shahrukh presented the four time award winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ alongside the beautiful star of the film, Freida Pinto.  As Shahrukh Khan stepped on to the stage, you could hear over the PA system, ‘Please welcome the King of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan!’  Whether you’re a fan of Shahrukh Khan or not, it was pretty hard not to feel proud of him and how he helped put Bollywood on the map that night.  The best part of his presentation had to be that he stayed true to his charismatic and confident persona.  He joked, laughed, and showed off those trademark dimples as he smiled and blew a kiss to an American actress in the audience.

Shahrukh Khan wasn’t alone though as he walked the red carpet!  The Baadshah was joined by his wife Gauri Khan and director Karan Johar, who is in Los Angeles with SRK to shoot his new film, ‘My Name is Khan,’ co-starring Kajol.  So the question is how did the trio do on the style tip?  Shahrukh sported a sleek black suit but instead of a traditional tie, he opted for a shiny black one which he tucked into his white dress shirt.  Not the best choice!  While it didn’t look horrible, I wish Shahrukh would’ve worn an elegant tie to go along with the formal theme of the night. although it was kind of cool that he took a risk.

Now, Gauri on the other hand is a different story!  Her shimmering neutral/nude/silver saree stayed within the theme of many Hollywood stars like, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Demi Moore, Beyonce, America Ferrera, Penelope Cruz, Vanessa Hudgens, Sandra Bullock, and Elizabeth Banks.  It was understated, yet a smart choice, unlike the gaudy sarees that Aishwarya Rai got so much flak for wearing at Cannes a few years ago.  The hair and the makeup was a different story though!  Her hair looked over the top and I was so tempted to pull those ridiculous looking bangs off her face!  The makeup was simple, but lacked oomph; it would’ve been nice to see some makeup that stood out seeing as the saree was so neutral.  Hey, at least her face didn’t look like it needed to be powdered like it usually does!

Fashion aside, it was so wonderful to see the King of Bollywood with his queen, walking the red carpet and on the stage representing Bollywood!  Drop us a comment with your thoughts on their look!

Akshay Kumar Beats Shahrukh Khan in Taxes

Shahrukh Khan may have ruled the box office in 2008, with ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi,’ beating Akshay Kumar’s record of ‘Singh is Kinng,’ but that wasn’t the case when it came to paying taxes!  With his numerous endorsement deals and his own company, Red Chillies, Shahrukh usually turns out to be the country’s highest tax payer. But with no releases from Red Chillies in 2008, that wasn’t the case.  According to the income tax department, Akshay has paid the highest advance tax this year: Rs 19 crores!!  Talk about a lot of dough!  Shahrukh has paid Rs 15 crores.  Phew!  Either way that’s a whole lot of moolah!

Unlike last year, Red Chillies didn’t pay any advance tax this year.  In 2007, they paid 2.5 crore, probably due to the success of ‘Om Shanti Om.’  Funny isn’t it though, as Akshay beats Shahrukh, it’s bittersweet as he has to shell out more cash, which is never a good thing especially in these economic times.  But we’re pretty sure Akshay’s not having any problems, especially with the whirlwind tour he’s been enjoying with the premieres of ‘Chandni Chowk to China.’

Guess the Kinng beat the Baadshah in this round, but let’s see if he can do it again with ‘Chandi Chowk to China’ releasing this Friday!

Katrina Kaif Bollywood’s Leading Klutz

Oh dear! Poor Katrina Kaif is accident prone!  She’s so accident prone that she’s giving Inspector Clouseau and Mr. Bean a run for their money.  The actress badly injured her face while shooting for Rajkumar Santoshi’s film, ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani’ at Madh Island recently. It was an emotional scene where Ranbir Kapoor was supposed to slap her. Unfortunately he missed (learn to duck Katrina) the mark and ended up hurting Katrina Kaif.  Maybe Katrina Kaif thought they were re-enacting the famous ‘Hit me’ scene from Martin Scorcese’s ‘Raging Bull.’  Oh man now Ranbir Kapoor better watch out for Salman Khan! Nobody messes with his girl!  But one might think that buying Ms. Kaif a pair of glasses might help more than bashing in a man’s skull over an accident.

The director asked Katrina Kaif to take a day off to rest but the lady promptly returned to work the next day,’ and like an unwilling crash test dummy Katrina Kaif has another accident thrown at her. Later she hurt herself once again but this time on the set of ‘De Dhana Dhan’. The girl is definitely a klutz!  A source close to the actress says, “Katrina Kaif was to shoot an underwater sequence for the film. But while doing that she badly injured her leg (was there a shark on set?). It began bleeding profusely.” When Katrina Kaif returned to shoot the next day the wound had not healed and it began bleeding once again. However, she managed to complete the shoot.

Well as accident prone as she is it’s good to know that it doesn’t stop her from working!  But if Katrina Kaif doesn’t start being more careful it’s going to take a Marvel superhero to keep her out of danger.  And everybody knows the likes of Spiderman, Wolverine and Thor are far too busy to protect her 24/7.  So in lieu of that option we at Desihits recommend that Katrina Kaif start walking around on set in a some sort of combat ready exoskeleton capable of resisting bullets, stab wounds and lightning bolts.  Given the fact that such act of madness hasn’t been invented yet she should probably start wearing a football helmet.  Granted this might kill her sex appeal, but there are a lot of fetishes out there so football helmet just might be one of them.

Happy Birthday Deepika Padukone!

Happy Birthday Deepika Padukone! The sexy model turned access is 22 today! Our sources tell us that the beautiful actress intends on spending the special day with her beau Ranbir Kapoor and his family. Really? What about rumors flying that Ranbir Kapoor got dumped by Deepika Padukone or the possibility of her cheating on him? Recently the media caught her sneaking out of a movie theater with a mystery man! So what’s the deal? Well for time being it seems as though the couple is ok or at least trying to make things work as she has chose to spend her birthday with the actor and his family.

Deepika Padukone’s  parents, former badminton player, Prakash Padukone and her mother are based in Bangalore and sources say that Ranbir Kapoor’s parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh make up for their absence in her life. How sweet! The actress stayed in with Ranbir Kapoor’s family to celebrate. “Ranbir has been unwell for the past few days as he has come down with a fever. So I will spend the day at his house,” said Deepika Padukone . Aww…,talk about a caring girlfriend! Well maybe the lovebirds are still going strong!

Currently the actress is busy with her projects and has done a cameo for Shahrukh Khan in his film, ‘Billu Barber’ for which she has not charged him a penny. “Shahrukh Khan is special and will always be. He has given me such a big hit like ‘Om Shanti Om’. I can do anything for him,” said the birthday girl. Oh that’s so sweet! We wonder if Shahrukh Khan got her anything for her birthday. We are sure Ranbir Kapoor did and maybe a mystery man did as well?? Who knows! Well whatever the case maybe we wish Deepika Padukone all the best on her 22nd birthday!

‘Ghajini’ Celebration

Oh my gosh, have you seen the biggest box office film in India yet, Desi Hits readers? Well we have got pictures of the ‘Ghajani’ stars living it up! Everyone can agree that Aamir Khan is definitely having a great year that was started from Taare Zaamen Par and it will probably translate into more success in the future for the star of the latest box office leader.

The movie ‘Ghajini’ is only in its first week out and it has already set a new record for Bollywood! ‘Ghajani’ is the first Indian film in the country’s history to collect an upwards of a hundred crore, let alone in the first six days and we’re certain there’s more to come in the next few weeks. The release of the film has been paved with lots of media attention with pictures of Aamir Khan getting haircuts, with information on his workout transformation, and countless teaser trailers for the movie which is arguably one of the best movies to come out in 2008. And it seems ‘Ghajani’ has lived up to all the hype.

Everyone that participated in the hot new movie was at the celebratory party posing against the movie’s, now well known background–the picture of Aamir Khan giving a fierce look full of revenge and anger. The camera men that got to be a part of the fun and excitement rightfully couldn’t help and take lots of pictures of the Jiah Khan, Aamir Khan, and Asin Thottumkal amongst others.
